China Glaze: Sea Goddess Collection (3 of 6 polishes)

Good morning!  I'm so ready for the weekend, but I've got an audition today to get through first before I can relax!  This morning I've got my three picks from the six-piece China Glaze Sea Goddess collection to show you; take a look!

Tail Me Something is a silvery purple textured polish, with a few darker bits in there to give it some dimension.

I used two coats for this mani, and unfortunately the formula wasn't great to work with.  After doing the first few nails, I had to put a whole 10 drops of thinner in there, and even then it was still really thick.  There are also little globs of what appear to be pigment in there, but I managed to manipulate it so as to not get any in my finished mani.  On the upside, it dried pretty quickly despite the thickness!

I wore this for a day earlier this week, and my main thought is that it's a lot more textured than polishes like OPI's Liquid Sands and Zoya's Pixie Dusts.  Where those ones feel like fine sandpaper, this one feels like pavement... or that bumpy white ceiling stuff.  (I would know, I'm on the top bunk and am constantly accidentally scraping my hands on the ceiling.)

Some little bits poking off the tips did tend to get stuck on my hair and clothing, but keep in mind that the entirety of my winter wardrobe is knit sweaters and it probably wouldn't get caught on t-shirts.  I'd recommend (with this and the other two polishes) that while the polish is still tacky, to pat along the tips with the pad of your finger to smooth/squish/remove any straggling textured bits that may catch on things.

Teal the Tide Turns is a medium teal textured creme with dark green and white microglitters.

Three coats for this swatch, and the formula was even more unfortunate than the previous.  This one didn't self-level at all, and I was left with a lumpy look, especially around the sides and tips of my nails.  The texture here is not quite as rough as the purple, but still more so than average.  Again, I added a frightening amount of thinner in order to make it more workable, but it didn't help much.

I do like the base colour of this one, but aside form that it doesn't really do much for me at all.  It honestly just needs a major formula revamp.

Wish on a Starfish is a light pink texture with a crazy strong golden shimmer.

Three coats here as well, and the formula wasn't as much of an issue!  This one was a little on the thick side, but much more workable than the other two.  The texture is still on the rougher side though.

Unfortunately this shade of pink isn't for me at all, but the shimmer in this is crazy beautiful!  It's super obvious is all lighting, and it gives the polish a glowy look.  I think this one would look so amazing on people with darker skin tones!

You can buy these and the rest of the China Glaze Sea Goddess collection through Nail Polish Canada here.  They're having a sale from now until February 15th where you can buy the entire 6-piece collection for $37.70, which is $10 off; you can find the set here

In all honesty, I'm not too huge a fan of any of these.  Tail Me Something is probably my favourite of the bunch on me, but I think I'd really like Wish on a Starfish if it looked good with my skin tone.  I've read a lot of reviews of recent China Glaze collections talking about iffy formulas, and these ones are definitely under that same umbrella.  All of them dry really quickly though, which is awesome!

What do you think of this collection?  Have you tried any of them? Are you planning to? Leave a comment! :)

  2. Too bad these have not so nice formulas because I'm loving the colors and the texture, even if it's more textured than other brands! Great swatches!

  3. I am getting 3 bottles myself, curious to see which colors.. that last one does look pretty though I am scared it wouldn't look great with my skin tone either!

  5. Teal the Tide Turns looks so promising, but every single review I've seen has agreed with you about the bad formula. It seems like China Glaze just needs to give up on the textures and go back to the drawing board...

  6. Dang, I bought two of these yesterday and hadn't had a chance to use them yet, but after reading that the formula and texture isn't great I'll probably return them since they're still brand new!

  8. I like the color of Tail Me Something, and I don't think I have anything at all like it so it's tempting. The only China Glaze Texture I've tried was the white holiday one and it was kind of a disaster, but I was hoping that was just because they were trying for a snow texture. Considering that OPI and Zoya both seem to have pretty flawless texture formulas, they are really behind on the texture trend, sounds like! By the time they get it sorted out it may be too late.
